Our Favorite things to do

Restaurants

Winter Activities

Winter Activities

You cannot find a bad meal in Steamboat. Here are some of our favorites. It was difficult to narrow it down, but here it goes

Breakfast

The Creekside Cafe and Grill

970- 897- 4925

This is one of our favorite breakfast/lunch place. They serve really great food, and on a nice day you can sit outside on their patio overlooking Soda Creek.

The Shack Cafe

970- 897- 9975

This is an institution in Steamboat for breakfast/lunch.

Dinner on the mountain - You can walk!

Cafe Diva

970- 871- 0508

This is also a must for us when we visit. This is the perfect romantic boutique restaurant. Fabulous food, service, ambience, and art. Probably one of the best restaurants.

Ragnars

970- 871- 5150

Ragnars is located in the Sunshine ski area of the mountain. It is the perfect rest and lunch place. Ragnars also offers evening dining arriving by sleigh. You take the gondola up and board a huge sled towed by a groomer and are pulled across the mountain to Ragnars. The night views are spectacular. Definitely worth doing, and Ragnars food is delicious.

Hazie's

970- 871- 5150

Hazie's is located at the top of the gondola. We love having lunch here and sitting in the bar area looking out at the breathtaking mountain views. The also offer dinner. Very elegant.

Dinner Downtown

Mambo Italiano

970- 870- 0500

This is a fun, friendly, kid-welcoming environment. Great Italian food. Very relaxed.

The Laundry

 970- 870- 0681

We have yet to try this one, but it comes highly recommended.

Mahogany Ridge Brewery and Grill

970- 879- 3773

This is a micro-brewery with American style food and live music. It's really good!

Winter Activities

Winter Activities

Ski and Snowboard School

First things first! Skiing and Snowboarding of course! Steamboat Ski and Snowboard School offers lessons to every level. Call 800-299-5017 or email:skischool@steamboat.com.

Equipment

For those seeking to buy equipment, the only person to see is Harry at Steamboat Ski and Bike Kare - 970-879-9144. He is the best boot fitter in town with the patience of Job (I know, I have tested him!) He is at 422 Lincoln Avenue which is the main street runnning through downtown.

To rent equipment, the easiest solution is to walk to the gondola area where you will find Sport Stalker, RideSports, Steamboat Ski Rentals and Steamboat Ski & Sport (located in the ground floor of the Sheraton) - 970-871-5346.

Snowmobiling

Steamboat Snowmobile Tours - 970-879-6500. These guys do a great job. The scenery is just breathtaking up on their high mountain meadows on Rabbit Ears Pass. We have had a lot of fun with them.

Tubing

You can tube down the Preview run in the evenings. Call 970-871-5359. We haven't done this yet, but it looks like it would be a lot of fun.

Hot Springs

An Absoulte MUST-DO is Strawberry Park Hot Springs - 970-879-0342. This is a magical place, especially at night. It is rejuvenating, relaxing, and truly amazing. You do need a 4-wheel drive to go, or you can call Sweet Pea Tours (970-879-5820). They have a small private pool where you can get a Watsu treatment while your other half is getting a regular massage and then you switch. It is the most renewing treatment that we have ever had.

Dog Sledding

For fun that will make your belly ache, you must try Dog Sledding with Grizzle-t Dog and Sled Works - 970-870-1782. They are located just out of town on the way to the airport. We laughed so hard we could hardly drive the sled. I say "drive" with tongue in cheek! Its a hoot.

Cross Country Skiing and Snowshoeing

We tried the cross country skiing at the Steamboat Ski Touring Center - 970-879-8180. The scenery was gorgeous and the trails were well kept. We have heard from friends who live in Steamboat that Vist Verde is a must too. You can check that out on their site as well.

Sleigh rides

We went out to the Elk River Guest Ranch for a tepee sleigh ride dinner. They are out in Clark, and the drive out there is worth it. They have beautiful horses and gorgeous land to take you for your ride before you enjoy your dinner in a real tepee. Good food.

Biking

Biking is its own culture in Steamboat, which has earned it a gold level bicycle friendly community award. Our favorite is to put our bikes on the gondola and bike down the trails.

Hot Air balloon Adventures

970- 879- 9191

This is the most amazing way to see the valley and mountain. Truly breathtaking and a must do!

Tubing down the Yampa

970- 879- 8747

There are several outfitters that will put you in the river and pick you up, this link is for Bucking Rainbow Outfitters. This is so much fun to do with a group.

Ziplining

970- 879- 6500

Steamboat Zipline adventures is one of the newest family activities. We haven't done it yet, but can't wait. It's a guided tour around six segments of zipline up on Rabbit Ears pass. Truly gorgeous vistas of the continental divide.

Cattledrives on Horseback

970- 879- 3711

Saddleback Ranch offers a cattledrive where you get to be a city slicker for a morning moving cattle and checking the animals. It's great fun. Just watch out for Curly!

Hiking

Devils Causeway - Yampa Valley

This is the most heavenly hike ending in standing on top of a plateau with a 50ft land bridge about 4ft wide with cliffs on both sides. Its an arduous climb but worth the effort with gorgeous mountain lakes along the way.

Fish Creek Falls

The falls are just outside of downtown. These majestic falls are 280 ft tall. You can hike round trip (approx 7 miles) to the top and back down. Its one of the most popular attractions of the area. It's only 0.4 miles to get a great view of the lower falls. 34165 Fish Creek Falls Road.

Golfing at Haymaker Golf Course

970- 870-1846

This is a public golf course with all the amenities you'll need. Absolutely

gorgeous.
